TL;DR—Konundrum offers a modular garment system which provides trans-seasonal, all-weather and cross-functional utility.
Jan-Philipp Kosfeld, the founder of Konundrum—a fashion innovation studio+brand based in Frankfurt, Germany—is pioneering practical application of modular principles in physical garments.
Modularity cannot simply be overlain onto existing garment parts and seams. A truly modular garment must withstand a lifetime of remixing, without becoming cumbersome. Over the past years, Jan-Philipp has fine-tuned his system, overcoming current hardware and material constraints by designing and custom manufacturing proprietary components.
Jan-Philipp now operates Konundrum with his partner, Annika Langhammer, who together envision Konundrum as a locus of interaction among creators and innovators. Since modularity nourishes more granular and interrelated contributions [more on that here], this vision of garment-system-as-platform feels like a highly potent prototype for how fashion can be more collaborative, resilient, and balanced (between style and function) in the long run.
